Guys please replace those hoses.....

I was a couple miles from home and slowed down for stop light (Yes it was green ) And all sudden I smelled the sweet stuff and my windshield was covered .

I drove rest way home . The temp gauge never went about 3/4 . I park truck pop hood. Steam is coming from riser tube area in front intake (302 ) .So I know its either the tube or hoses . No biggie

I can hardly get around when I get home from work so Its sat till this morning . So out at 5:30 am I go to find problem . It was the small 6" preformed hose that ran from riser to
throttle body .

I put this motor in 2 years ago (time flies ) All new lines but this one . As I
reused 1 I had that was only 1 year old.

So its going to have ur basic rubber line replace it . I KNOW IT WILL BOTHER ME.

Also I flush heater hose/core out . As well as the throttle body and rad . You should have seen gunk . And the motor only has 60000 and heater core hoses rad 30000 . But she's clean . Now to wash out side to get ride of the green sticky stuff.

!!!SO Get new hoses!!!
So for the $60ish in new hoses do em all . I drive 1 1/2 hours and this could have happened at 15 minutes into trip and with windows open at 65 i would not have smelled anything . I probably would have fried the motor if I wasn't the type to look at gauge all time. .

Used to LOVE that Darling little hose that went from the top of the Water Pump to the Intake on the 351W. about 2" long and HELL to get in and out of there, yet you could bet that was the culprit on many time a ford was on the side of the road with steam billowing out

Good advice on the hoses Larry. I also like to carry one of those ribbed, universal radiator hoses in my toolbox along with a length of heater hose.

Tom, are you thinking of the hose on the FE series engines?

This sounds like an accurate description of the one on my truck that got a pinhole leak.

"Hey, somethings leaking under your truck man."

"Ahhh crap."

I learned the hard way that it was a formed hose and it couldn't be replaced with just a regular hose, had to be a specific part. The hose I originally put on it pinched in the middle and boy did she ever get hot. I don't think you would've blown the engine, Lost. Just because they'll take alot more abuse than you think, lol. I had that thing HOT.

No, this was a 351W in a '74 mercury montego station wagon, if I recall correctly; then again, I have slept since then. The only FE I have owned was in a '61 4x4 unibody... with a 360.

Either way, that hose was hell. And yes, it wasnt the same size from one end to the other, so it was a "speshu"l part.

Ok. I'm thinking of the hose on the FE block. It shoots straight from the back of the water pump to the front of the manifold and is about 2 inches long. That ones a pain too.
