Starter

Here's another question:
I want to replace the starter with a better heat tolerant one. Mine is original and sometimes when Burt is really hot I have to wait for him to cool before the starter will crank. I have isolated to the starter so that isn't the question. Just looking for suggestions for a replacement. They ain't cheap and I don't want to go cheap, so what are you all using? What would you look for or recommend?
Thanks,
Dak

You running headers? That typically causes the heat soak...even if not, you could always try heat wrap, or bolt on a heat shield. Anyway, I had an autozone starter on Red and had a similar problem, and did away with it. So I went to O'Reilly's...and got a Motorcraft reman'd starter, I believe it was around $75, with a lifetime warranty. I haven't had a problem since. Now that starter is about $30-40 more expensive, but it did come with a life time warranty, and I haven't had any problems with it. It's an item you'll have to order from the store because they don't stock them, and a quick check shows you can't order them online.

Thanks... No Ben, stock exhaust manifolds. I thought about heat shields, etc., but then thought that since it's 32 years old now I don't want to be on a camping trip somewhere with the travel trailer and Boom, no start. I'll look into a FOMOCO Motorcraft rebuilt or a new one.
