im sick of my bearings going out on side every three months.

So im going to go through and do it all.
disks, bearings (course), pads, new spindle nuts.

And im going to buy a torque wrench and the appropiate socket for the size of the spindle nut so i can make sure and do it the right way.

but i cant seem to find out what the appropiate size of the socket is...

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

not real sure on the torque specs but the inner nut is 35in pounds I think. Tighten up the nut spin the rotors a few times to seat the bearings in. then loosen the nut and tighten it hand tight with the socket. the outer nut is 150 foot punds but I tighten them closer to 250 or they tend to loosen.

Randy's pretty spot on-- the inner nut has a lot less torque, while the outer has a CRAPTON of torque. If you haven't been using a spindle nut socket then I highly doubt that you got the outer nut anywhere near where it needed to be, which might explain your problem.

I'm not sure as to the size of the spindle nut socket-- when you buy them at the parts counter you don't really buy them according to size, you buy them according to application. Just tell them what your truck is and they'll help you.

No, be careful Anthony. It's 150 ft-lbs for the OUTER spindle nut. The INNER spindle nut is the one that holds the rotor on, which has a lot less torque (not exactly sure how much), then the perforated lock ring, then the outer nut which is around 150 ft-lbs.

Ohhh... sorry. My bad assumption! I have 4wd on the brain...

Wait wait... 2wd? A 2wd should not have spindle nuts with locking ring--- it should only have a single wheel retainer nut...

yep sorry I was thinking 4wd. Seldom ever see a 2wd truck around here.

Adjust the wheel bearings by tightening the adjusting nut to 17–25 ft. lbs. (23–38 Nm) with the wheel rotating to seat the bearing. Then back off the adjusting nut 1⁄2 turn. Retighten the adjusting nut to 10–15 inch lbs. (1.1–1.7 Nm). Install the locknut so that the castellations are aligned with the cotter pin hole. Install the cotter pin. Bend the ends of the cotter pin around the castellations of the locknut to prevent interference with the radio static collector in the grease cap. Install the grease cap.

sweet thanks. i was thinking that 150 was way to much.

on a side note. is there a waya to find out the what the correct radiator is for my truck. considering this one doesnt actually fit and they make a couple of different sizes just for a 302 alone.
