Sure, the year is '66. Complete VIN is F25YK860414.

I thought I knew full history (father-son ownership) but need help with codes.
Welcome to FTF

F25 = F250 2WD

Y = 352 2V.

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

860414 = 1966, assembled May 1966.

ALL 1965/76 FE engines look identical, and on sale day, 352/360's magically become 390's!

The only way to ID a 390 is by measuring its stroke, which is 3.78 inches. 352/360's have a 3.50" stroke.

360/390 introduced in 1968 F100/350, used thru 1976, so if it does have a 390, the engine was swapped.

There's no such thing as a Y AXLE code, no such thing as a 2 4 ENGINE/TRANS code

The AXLE code is stamped on the 2nd line-far right of the Warranty Plate, it's probably 24 = Dana 60 Rear Axle / 4.10-1 / No Limited Slip / 5,200 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

TRANS code stamped on the Warranty Plate, will be A for New Process 435 4 speed, C for 3 speed manual, F for Warner T-18 4 speed, G for A/T.

1965/67 F100/350 352's came with MX Cruise-O-Matic, which has 14 trans pan bolt holes.

C6 introduced in 1968, has 17 trans pan holes.

Thank you for the VIN clarification. I purchased a 1966 F250 yesterday as a project truck. VIN is F25YK875868 with HM color. If I read the document you posted correctly, the engine is a 352, it was assembled in Kansas City, and the color scheme is beige/white (still is this color). I struggle a bit with interpreting the month/year from the VIN. Any direction is greatly appreciated!

875868 would indicate June 1966.

Thx Bill,
warranty plate reads (as you suggested) -

BM F253 81 G 24

Truck is currently in US still. I'm considering an engine re-build out of Spokane as opposed to bringing it back here to Alberta Canada. Any thoughts?

Token Canadian - you close to Calgary?

Very...:D

I would take your engine to Precise Engine Rebuilders here....might be less hassle if warranty issues arise and the are a great place to deal with.

Thx for the lead at Precise.

Not sure where to put money first so as to at least raise appraised/insured value to the level of my investment, as I go, to end up with a safe, reliable re-furb for me to drive. (not a restoration).

do re-wire 1st.
do dual cylinder brake upgrade 1st.
do interior upholstery 1st.
do paint/body work 1st.
do engine/trans rebuilds 1st.

So at least it is insured for close to the amount I've got in it if anything were to happen as I drive it. Agent tells me that $1500 is about the most coverage until a formal appraisal for more.

any experience here as well?
