ranger speedometer

hey guys. I have a 97 ranger xlt ext cab 4x4 power everything and my speedo needle doesnt not move at all. First thing i thought was the VSS but the ohms readings were perfect and the cruise control works fine. any ideas? bad ground connection on the dash board??

Are all the fuses good?

if my memory is correct the same fuse that operates the speedo also operstaes the 4x4 system.. hmmm have not got my book in front of me
