Oil Pressure Gauge Problem

Hi everyone this is my firs post so be gentle I TYPE LIKE CRAP! LOL!.I have an 1988 f150 4X4 with a 5.0 and C-6 trans almost completely stock. My oil gauge pegged all the way past low with engine on and stays there.I put a mechanical gauge on, pressures are good 15-50 psiI it has the bosch s334 sender on it.Also the engine light came on.Everything was fine until i put a wiper motor on then i noticed the problem. Is there supposed to be power to the plug at the sensor when key is on?I know the sender is grounded on the engine.Any help would be great

I had to search for this when i had this prob too .... the pressure switch is wired so that it works like an on/off switch which is why the gauge either goes to a level and stays there or doesn't work at all.
Just replace the sender or if you want to have a more representative oil pressure reading you will have to find the resistor that the cunning ford engineers fitted to the oil sender wiring loom .... there are two places you will find the resistor one of which is on the back of the instrument pcb (mine was like this) and you could find it in the wiring loom close to the pressure fitting.
Once you have located it just snip it out and resolder a bit of wire in its place and fit a standard oil pressure sender unit in place and you will be good to go.

you can do what Mark stated above to resolve the electric dash guage to keep it working.my self being a fan of mechanical guages(more accurate) you can install a T fitting in the block, most common auto part stores have them & have both.just something to think about.
