no, i am not crazy...but..................

I am looking for any sites that might help me out on this. I am wanting to put a 4.6 into my 77 f-100. i have owned it for 20 years now and am doing a frame off resto. i am wanting a clean everyday driver that i do not have to worry about. I am not doing any high po mods, just a clean stock looking under hood replacement. I have done my fair share of fab work, and also plenty of electrical. This is a long term project and yes i know, this is going to be a job, but I really do want a more modern feel to my old truck. Any help, or advice would be great. My plans right now are to buy an old cop car to use for the swap, but am open to any others that might be better.

Welcome to FTF! I don't have any info for this kind of swap, but make sure you take some progress pictures for us. Should be a good project.

thank you both, this has allready turned into a father-son-daughter project, so even if it never gets completed, it has been worth it! i will take plenty of pics, and will ask plenty of questions. i allready have it down to bare frame, so i can pretty much set it up to accept what ever engine i find for it. My main questions right now are to do with the fuel tank. Will i need to make the factory tank accept the new fuel pump, or do i just go with a frame mount electric? I am in the reseach stage of this now.

what i would do is gat a core block and heads of the engine you wnt to use strip the crank and oil pan off leave the top end together. put the trans you want to use on. put your cab back on. and make a cradle that spans the frame and the engine sits on it.and make it so you can set the engine hight you want . make a stand for the trans that is adjustable so you can make your trans mount and set you pinion angle. with the front engine mounts you can make them with the engine sitting on the cradle.if i knew how to post pics i would post a pick of my chevy engine cradle for my 53 pickup

oh and the cradle will help you slid the engine front to back and side to side so oyu can get it where you want it in the engine bay like firewall and radiator clearance

I Really Was Thinking About A 5.4, But I Thought It Easier To Find A 4.6 Donor. I Can Get A Ex Cop Car Around Here For 500 Or Less, So I Thought Why Not?

You could look for used city maintenance trucks, I'm guessing your not going to do a rebuild before you drop it in there?

hey, thanks...that is great. and i have no problem rebuilding the motor and tranny before i drop it in. of course i would love to find a setup with only 30,000 miles for 500$$, but i am not holding my breath!! i know the cop car motors will have un Goddly miles, so i planned to overhaul them, but i never thought about the city trucks, thanks(the bad part is i am a mechanic for our city!)
