Hello all,
I am new to the forum and will be using it quite often. I have been around the 70's ford pickups all my life and cant get enough of them. My father had a blue 77 f150 all my life which I helped him wrench on growing up and had some great memories drivin around with him in it, when I got my licence to drive that was my truck until he decided to sell it because it was too hard on gas which I argued and argued againest, anyway to make long story short I just bought a red and white 77 f150 that someone had for parts because the engine was "gone". So far all I know about this truck is that the clutch tranny and transfer case is all redone but the guy gave up because engine was smoking bad. I am a mechanic by trade so when the truck was dropped off at my house it wouldn't crank over. I started with new battery terminals and starter solenoid and cleaning all connection points and got it to start, he was right it was smoking horribly, but no hesitation or knocking or running rough also smoke wasnt blue like he had said, it was, white (coolant). Since that i have stripped the engine down and found that driver side head gasket was GONE, checked the heads and block for warps and she is good to go also no cracking in the deck or cylinders, I just about have the engine back together but i was sent the wrong intake valley pan gasket and am waiting for the new one to show up, also I found out that the original owner blew the original engine with 35,000 kms on it and bought a long block crate engine and put it in, the truck only has 78,000 kms on it , so this engine has low useage. Anyway I will be posting on here as I need questions answered
Thank you
ps. here is a pic of me and my buddy pushin the truck into my garage
