Hi guys I just joined up.
Proud new owner of a 73 F250 from Cali.

Is there a sticky thread for list of things to go through on a purchase of a classic F250?

Tranny filter ?
Tune up- plug wires cap?
Timing ?
Fluids ?
Transfer case ?
Brakes - look ok - but close to end
Tires - has dry rot
Turns over kinda slow. Not sure if it's starter or not

Same engine from what I can tell.
PO didn't swap it out but not 100% sure.

I asked as there was never a factory Ford that came with a 390 in a 4x4...except when it comes to selling it....hehehe

You can decode the vin and find out everything you need to know, or at least how Ford intended. I did that with mine as I was told it was numbers matching original.

If you have the VIN....you can post it and we can tell you. But I can tell you that 100% no 4x4 came with a 390.
Only way to tell is to pop a plug and measure the stroke.
Wasn't trying to pop your bubble...I found out the same way years ago.
There is always the possibilty if it has been changed by someone

Nothing wrong with the 360...

If the 4th digit in the VIN number is a Y, which it should be, then the engine is a 360. As Duncan stated, if it really is a 390, then the engine has been swapped at some point.

I had a '74 F-250 at one time that had a 390 out of a '69 station wagon. It was a common swap.
