New Guy, battery light ?

Hello, I was a Chevy truck guy since 86 but recently picked up a 1998 2wd xlt 4.2 Nice!

I can't figure out why my battery light remains on when engine is running. I replaced the alternator. Battery tests good, cables/connections good condition. Fuses in "battery box" on firewall all good.

Any suggestions? Also thanks for allowing visitors, I corrected a few other problems looking through this site.

Welcome to the site! Remember, even though you've replaced the alternator, it still can be bad. Accurate testing is still needed. Running, there should be 13.5 to 14 volts at the battery.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll test that tommorrow when I can borrow a meter. I can't help but think it's something between the alternator and the dashboard though. The alternator I just replaced was said to be new by the former owner. I replaced it anyway because I thought it was the most likely thing.
I still feel a bit lost with this truck though, it;s the newest one I've ever worked on myself.

It will test bad. I don't know off hand which one it is, I will look later today for you, but there is a fuse under the hood for the alternator. I had one out and it wouldn't charge. replaced it and BAM started working right as rain. I pulled my alt. 5 times before I found it.
