"New" Bed

Here is my "new" bed. It has surface rust mostly. Driver side well has typical rust through. Bed has some small spots. I took the panels off the tail gate. Some surface rust on it also. I'll sand it all and primer.

Once I get the gate cleaned up I'll put the panel back on and there was one above it as well. There was also the aluminum surround for the taillights and the bottom of the gate. Sure was a lot of aluminum.

That's because all the tailgates were made the same and had FORD stamped on them for the Custom model. The upgraded panels, chrome, etc. was just put over the base tailgate.

Looks good. It'll be nice when it's done. And same thing here, I didn't know the tailgates with the chrome FORD panel was just placed over the stamped FORD. I was surprised when I saw that too on mine.

I'm tryinf to figure out how to fill the holes left ny the racetrack chrome. It was tripped off some time ago before I got it.

Go to the junk yard and get some chrome stuff to practice on.

I have a MIG welder. I was thinking of cutting small pieces of repair panel behind the hole and using flux core wire. Trouble was I couldn't feel the holes when I felt behnd the outer skin. It was like another panel was over them from behind.
