New Alternator

Hi Guys,
I have recently heard about the Powermaster 140 amp internally regulated alternator. I want a bigger one in my truck because it's charging the truck battery along with 2 12V RV batteries in the trailer and running all the lights on the trailer and the sub audio system in the truck all at once, along with the heater/AC when needed. Anybody have one of these? Other recommendations? I also like the idea of internal regulation. that would clean up the looks under the hood a bit.

That I did.

Forget that overpriced Powermaster.

Get a good old junkyard 3g, it'll have enough juice for almost anything!

I've been wanting to do my own write up on the install, but it's been about 3 years since I did it, and I'm not getting any younger. It's not that hard and if you search even a little you'll find more than enough info on how to do it.

All a Powermaster is is a lightly "modded" 3g.

Here's mine

Thanks for the info Ben. I did look that up... $$$$ but a nice set up. I kinda want to do it from scratch, so to speak.

Thanks UNRULEE, That's actually what I remembered reading about on this site and I found the thread where you talk about doing this. I do want the internally regulated version though and have found a bunch of stuff to read up on before I do this. Its' not hard and I have a bit of experience with electrical stuff on our trucks (did just learn a bit about electric chokes that I didn't realize though from Dennis!) One thing I forgot about was the isolator for my travel trailer batteries. It is only 70amps and will have be to upgraded also, along with the heavier gage wire to the battery (which is already a heavy duty) Anyway, when I do this (later!) I'll take pictures and do the write up. I'm old and tired also, but it's time I contributed a bit more information here than asking so many questions!YelloThumbUp
Thanks again!

Looking forward to a write up Dak...I've been wanting to do an alternator upgrade as well. However, Lee being the slacker he is (haha just playin), has yet to write up what he did for a 3g in a dentside. And the other route I was think was something from JBG, but like you said...big money.
