Much needed help

Im new to this forum and am seeking help with my 98 ranger 3.0 V6. A few weeks ago I had noticed my truck running rough. It felt as if the transmission was i dont want to say sliping but lets say something was a miss. I checked the fluid level and was quite low, topped it off and got better. Its an automatic and shifts fine in and out of park netural reverse and drive and as long as i accelerate slowly every gear shifts and engages and does not slip. but If i accelerate to fast i get a strong vibration. and seems like it does not downshift. Ive been working on this truck for years now but transmissions are not a strong sute ive done some reading but any help would be appreiciated.

The first thing to do is service the fluid. Thats by far the cheapest "fix". Trans fluids have friction qualities. As they age, those properties degrade. A service might be all you need.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ive read in a few places that for a high milage transmission (186,000) that flushing all the fluid is not recomended, what would your take be on this?

Many flushes now use chemicals in addition to the flush. In my opinion its the chemical use that causes the damage. Just fluid replacement shouldn't cause any trouble.

I would have no trouble flushing that trans. The ranger trannys have separator plate issues that cause missed shifts/flares. A good way to check for this is while cruising along put the gas to the floor as to pass a car, if the engine just races and truck really doesn't go that might be the problem.
