OK, theres "shop competency" and "tech competency", meaning, if theres someone in the shop certified in a particular area, anyone in the shop can do warranty work in that area. Thats shop competency. Tech competency is only that tech can do the work. Early 2012, Ford is moving gas repair and performance from shop to tech competency.

so anything that comes in out of warranty is shop work?
So with the training, you will have more work available to you?

If i recall correctly i think i read that warranty work is done on book time?
So is out of warranty work done on actual time and billed to the customer?

Any particular reason for the change? Or does this coincide with my prediction that all work arenas are headed towards more pieces of paper attached to employees.

Was there anything wrong with the work that was previously being done? Or just that they didn't have the paper that said they were qualified?

I cant say nationwide (haven't visited that many dealerships), but it assures that whoever is working on your vehicle is qualified.
