MKZ upgrades...

Well boys and girls...the Lincoln has been trouble free for 9,000 miles now, and I'm feeling good about her, even bought her a new pair of shoes recently. I've put 31,000 miles on her in 11 months...and I'm looking for suggestions (or words against) on some fun upgrades. I was thinking the standard stuff, exhaust/CAI/tuner. Steeda has a CAI/tuner combo that is reviewed as the best on the market BUT...I'm not sold on the CAI, it appears to be the standard cone shaped filter, in the stock air filter area...thusly, just pulling hot ambient engine temps...and not drawing in any cooler air from anywhere. However, more air is always better, right??? Then for the tuner...is it worth getting a tuner just for the sake of having a tuner, even if there's no other real upgrades???

Real world numbers (from Lincoln forums) say this combo can take a 263hp stock rated car to a 301whp car.

Word on the net is...a good exhaust system is a very good investment as well (open up upward of 26whp). My question is, do I go for one of the pre-made systems...or do I piece one together...or hang my own???

And finally, being the computer controlled vehicle dunce that I am...what affects do these upgrades have up and down stream??? Or does the tuner correct that???

As for the CAI, take it or leave it, but follow my next answer.

With these new rides, you've gotta be careful what you mod if you don't tune. Get the tune - it might even improve your MPG. Find out if you can get free tune upgrades - great for when you drop the coin on exhaust.

Exhaust - I'd get the pre-fab. Is your car a true dual, or y in the back?

Yeah...kinda my feelings on the CAI. And for the tuner, I kinda figured it's one of those 'gotta dos' after you change anything. And the MKZ is a Y-pipe.

^^^You're my rock Matty Bear...haha. To be honest, starting to enjoy the car now that it's not in the shop once a month. Maybe it was just used car gremlins that had to be sorted out...but it's turning in to the car expected and read about.

dumb luck. I'm just telling you what I would do if I was in your situation.

back on topic *gasp* it sounds like that engine has alot of potential... 300hp? that would be considerably awesome.

BTW...must be effing Karma or something, here I am singing the praises of the MKZ...hop in it late last night, notice a little bit of a slow start, figure it's almost 5 years old...probably time for a battery. Hop in this morning...super slow start, and now my air bag light is illuminated. Didn't have a clue wtf that meant, but I drove to work anyway...when I pull in to my parking spot, I pull out the owner manual. Thanks alot Ford/Lincoln, alot of effing help that was...it simply said if this light is illuminated bring to dealership (paraphrased). Did a quick search online and found out that apparently the airbag symbol is the 'time to replace the battery' symbol as well. Fawking genius I say.

I think that's the Lincoln's way of letting me just exactly who is in charge. Spiteful biatch.

Except for your battery situation today....glad your car is working out for you....I don't remember what you had on it for wheels, but I'm a big wheel guy. Is that something you'd consider upgrading to after markets.

I love these rims...wouldn't change them. But Ryan is probably right...it serves it's purpose...getting me from A to B.

If you just need to get from A to B (which is how I convinced my wife to let me buy my dent  ) then get a scooter or a Focus!

'smiliedoh'

Does Ford make scooters?

My wife laughs at me all the time every time we go to a family function, there always seems to be a crowd around the truck and when they give me compliments on it, I simply say, "Yeah....it gets me from A to B." smilieFordlogo
