In missouri, you can take it to the highway patrol for them to inspect it. There are several "hidden" vin numbers at different areas. When they verify the numbers, they issue you a new plate.

They didn't put the vin plate on the dash until the 80's

The VIN# is stamped on the top of the frame rail passenger side between rad support and firewall

That is the # you and the DMV go by

They put what they call a Rating plate on the driver's door near the latch

x2 on what Dennis said... No GEN6 had a VIN tag on the dash. There should be a stamped metal rating plate with the vin on it on the driver's door.

Hi Guys here is the update, I took the truck to a local Ford dealer for inspection, the service manager went out to the vehicle opened the drivers door, verified the vin #from the rating plate which has the vin # on it & the manufactor sticker on the rear cab post, after a $3.95 fee,i know have my inspection slip.going back to the BMV in the morning to get the title work done.but i think im going to a different BMV....lol the hoops they wanted me to go through i felt was unjustified & would have been costly, especialy when the tags are there in place & can be read very easily.i did look at the frame rail as well just to put my mind at ease & the numbers coincide.Hopefully ill have an Ohio Title by noon tommorro. Thanks Again!!

You do realize that the Door plate is NOT the Bonafide VIN# ?

It has to be the number on the Frame because doors or entire cabs get changed.

You can ONLY go by the door plate Vin# of it matches the frame rail VIN #

Yes Dennis i understand this, that is why i looked at the frame as well.i did not want a salvage reconstructed title.since all the numbers coincide with the frame & the title i recieved. it also has the original id tags under the hood that coincide what came out of it.it was purchased as a complete rolling unit & from decifering the tag numbers the truck has the proper equipment on it,other than the engine & transmission & swap.grant it some of the dash wiring was hacked up & parts missing from disassembly to repaint.i really believe it is a legitimate find & if you seen it in person for yourself,i think you would agree.got the Ohio title today, all is well my friend,if it was pieced together they did one heck of a job..lol

I just added it for future use.

I read you did exactly what is necessary. Excellent news when they all match
