M5OD shifter installation

i had to remove the shifter stick to move the tranny back now i cant install it.. i put it in but it wont shift into other gears.. :S strange..

The stick is no engaged into the trans properly... Work at it a little bit, you will feel when it drops into place. Make sure eveything is where it should be.

You're probably going to have to pop the top off and put it in neutral and put it back together!!!

Pull the carpet back and look for a large panel around the shifter, remove it and you should be able to get to the top of the tranny!!!

You will see about 10 or 12 bolts holding the cover on then lift it off!!!

Each rail/fork has three positions put them in the middle one and slide the gear collars to the middle and that should do it!!!

They are made to only go in one gear at a time so don't force them or they will bend!!!

Take your time!!!

It's easier than it sounds!!!

Jurgen you might be able to take the shifter out and look down the hole and use a big screwdriver to align the shift rails!!!

Maybe the one on the left!!!

In neutral the two shifter slots should line up!!!

Like I said before it will only go in one gear at a time so which ever one will move is the one engaged!!!

Just move one put the shifter in and see if it will shift!!!

Jurgen I've got an extra tranny in the garage, I'll go out and look at it, so stick around a bit!!!

If you do end up pulling the top of the tranny apart to realign the shift forks...that would be the time to check the little plastic tips on the synchros to make sure they're still good/not missing!!!

similar problem?

I replaced the clutch on my 1977 f250 highboy..believe its a 435 tranny..had to remove the gearshift assembly ...went to put it back on..truck stalls when clutch is let out..think its stuck in two gears or gears forks in wrong spot? What does neutral look like with gearshift housing removed...stumped and frustrated..can really only slide reverse and first gear around any advice?
