lifter arrangement's ??

well the other day my water pump went out (i pulled over as soon as i seen the temp go up, i didn't dare risk blowing up my girl), had water coming out the hole thing. so i got a new one and put it on with a new thermostat. i flushed the system and made sure to get all the air out. well on test drive, at first it ran great. about 3 miles into my trip the truck started losing power. rpms shot up. hard to keep her going. got home and checked water level and check for leaks well had no leaks but was loosing water. well i let her run in park and noticed water bubbling up out the radiator which looked a little oily. (f*ck me) i check oil dip stick and there was no froth or water in oil. hmmm i filled her with more water thinking maybe i didnt get all the air out and it never did run HOT. put radiator cap back on and let her idle. while this is going on i was have a loud screeching going on. so i start thinking well maybe with the pump working at full strength it put more stress on the belt, so i got another and still squealed, i took the pullies of my mazda and put on the ford, i checked sniffnes and rotation of my clutch fan and power steering pump. seems fine not catching or freezing and i also changed the spark plugs and put the alternator from mazda into ford. i took off inlet and outlet lines for heater core to see if i had clog, ran water through it with a hose and it was'nt clogged, i checked the bypass on the upper intake manifold and it was clear. i also made sure the over flow wasnt clog and the radiator cap should be good cause thats only a few weeks old. so i started her up. im still loosing water and bubbles coming up and started smoking alot of white smoke out the tail pi e but the screeching stopped. this truck builds up some serious pressure with the radiator cap on. i had steam/water start blowing out thermostat housing so i tightened that down, then came out the heater core connections. so i figure i have a blown head gasket and the water is escaping. I get it all apart no problems. I got a new head gasket set and new head bolts, and the other necessary stuff. so while cleaning up my parts i decided to take out my lifters and clean them. while cleaning i noticed numbers on them and they where different for each one. my question is are those lifters suppose to be in a certain order? and if so does anyone know what order? I should have done those one at a time but i wanted to check them and thought it was ok cause they all looked the same so i didnt think it mattered, while looking for the torque specs i read something that said keep them in order, I would appreciate anyones advice or help on this.

Lifters should be put in the same place they came out of. The surface of the lifter will be have a wear pattern, if you mix them up it can cause problems.

whoops, its a 2001 ford ranger xlt 3.0 flex fuel. and now i know i should keep them in order. this is my first doing this kind of repair. they are not in order but there are letters and numbers on there that state where they go, im trying to find out what they mean and get a chart so i can at least put those back in place

i hope you are wrong smokey, im praying its just the gasket, but when i took of the head i really couldnt see a for sure place where it was getting through
i just got to put it together and hope its not. if it is idk what ill do. i need that truck to make money for my family and its the only thing close to running, no way i can afford a 200-400 buck head i have thought about putting in that blue devel stuff. god i dont want to do my girl like that..

You will need new Head bolts those are torque to yield bolts and should not be reused. Just a reminder incase you didn't know.
If you couldn't see a place on the gasket it is a 90% change they warped or cracked sorry to say.

yea i got the bolts, 40 bucks, thats crazy. they just want you to spend money. I miss my 92 ford ranger. I rolled that damn thing on its side and we flipped it over and she drove fine lol that was one hell of a truck.

well what i have done now is take the heads off my mazda b3000 and i did notice where the head gaskets where bad. so i think ill use them on the ranger. that way i know i have a better chance of not having a cracked head. i spent most the day doing that and cleaning parts. I like all my stuff to be spotless. eaisier to find leaks. i made sure to keep everything in place. does anyone know how to take the valves out the head. i have new seals for that and like to get them on also. ford ranger 3.0

UPDATE
well i got the ranger going a few days after my last post. didnt use the heads off mazda. it was running great. though my transmission went out a few days ago. so now im trying to do the head gasket set on mazda. i just got the head gasket set with bolt. went through advanced auto parts this time. i was getting tired of auto zone and them seeming to be giving me alot of wrong parts. well hopefully i get the mazda going. it sucks being broke. wish i could just get a new truck btw advanced auto parts gave me the wrong head bolts they were a inch to small
