At the quarry I worked at in MD, our drilling rigs ran 12v71 detroits for the powerheads. I hated listening to them scream all day. They would turn a constant 3 grand for 10 hour shifts.

didja change the plugs, cap and rotor??? :rofl2:

Sorry... I don't think of servicing one in terms of "tune up", but that's just me.
You want to really cuss at one? run it out of fuel and try to get it going again with no air.

Our foreman would have fired us for even thinking about ether.

You don't need a lot a little go's a long way, but it's so much fun. At the shop I worked at, we'd use ether all the time for stuff.

Dude, it will lock the motor up if you aren't careful.

I watched him move a truck from one side of the shop to the other on it. (the truck had something wrong with the fuel system I don't remember what though it's been about 4 years a go)

I AM old school diesel!

Re-ringed and sleeved many a motor because of the idjits using ether. I think they must use it on themselves, first!

ever see a bend DIESEL rod? Ain't purty. I have one that I use as a yard ornament.

Yes, 8 times out of 10 you will have success. but I still don't like those odds.

You probably are much more conscientious in your work than the yahoos I had out in the field, though

Nope never saw a bent rod, but I did get to see a 60 block with a hole you could put your fist through though. (driver never heard a thing till it blew)

This sucker got hot (lost coolant thru a pinhole in the coolant filter) sucked a sleeve, and when it FINALLY died, richard cranium tries to start it with ether!

Ouch. What was he doing trying to start that hot of an engine?

Edit - richard cranium I like that mind if I use it?
