I now have a 78 f250 400 auto truck in my bay. Gotta try to remember how to work on this thing. Rear main seal, oil pan gasket.

OooooooOOOOooooo...take pics...of said truck, that is.

After all the new(er) rigs you see day in, day out...is something like this a breath of fresh air, add any nostalgia...or since it's old is it a PITA?

why in the hell would someone take something that old to a dealership to pay high dollar for something a reputable shop could do... for cheaper...

just saying.....

Disposable income?????????? My guess is either a buddy to someone at the dealership, someone who has a loyalty to Vince, someone who has owned the truck since new and always gotten their work done at the delaership or they like having the Ford name behind all the work done on their rig.

Can the rear main be serviced by just loosening the crank bolts? My '78 was serviced entirely by Ford up until 1996. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it, but I'm glad the original owner had it done.

Drop the pan, remove rear main cap, split seal.

I never go to a dealership for work. Ok, twice. My Aerostar was recalled and the water pump leaked after a year. Mostly I try to do it myself. I open the Chiltons or Haynes and read. If it is something I can't do or don't have the tools then I go to a local shop.
