I'm new here and need some help...

I'm new here, but have been under the hood for years.... just not in about 30 years. I've just dropped a remanufactured 4.2 L into my 98 F150. I have everything connected just the way the original was (except 2- 1/4" hoses coming from the cooling system, I can't remember where they went). But right now my main concern is this- It starts, but won't idle. Do I need to have computer connection to my laptop? The last time I did an engine swap, the engine had a carberator.... Please help me, this truck is my work truck and I need it back!

Do you have all the intake hoses hooked up? In particular, the one from the mass air flow sensor to the throttle body.

Yes, as I said in my initial post the only ones I can't figure out at this point are the 2 small ones coming from the coolant lines. Which I have blocked off at this point.

Do you mean the line that goes into the bottem of the air filter? Does the air filter body and it's electrical connections have to be on the engine to run?

Somewhat sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Getting DTCs would be a big help. That'll point you in the right direction.

YES! Thats to monitor the amount of air going into the engine for proper calculations.

Please explain DTC's....

There Diagnostic Trouble Codes, if the computer sees a problem it usually stores a code in it's memory that you can read with a code reader. This will point you in a direction to repair the truck.

Make sure you have no vaccum leaks and check the plug wires at the coil they can be installed wrong and still have the truck run. IF I remember correctly it's 1-2-3
4-6-5 The coil should be numbered....
