Well fellas...I got everything back on the Bronco. I started it, checked for leaks, there was a minor dribble that I noted. Turned it off to let the compression really show any leaks. I tightend up what needed to be tightened and then went to turn the key again. What did I hear, grind grind grind grind grind. Instantly I knew it was the starter:

WTF caused that. Checked the flexplate, looked to be ok. Is there anything else I should inspect? And what on earth would cause a seemingly fine starter to sheer gears and break the housing?

Sticky bendix!!!

Alright...just making sure...while I'm starting to hold my own in tearing down and fixing, I still need help from time to time on what caused the problem or identifying symptoms. Anywho...guess I get to wait around for another ride tomorrow.
