Hydraulic/trans smell

Alright fellas, I've gotten a lot more in town/bumper to bumper driving in on the Mustang, and I've noticed what smells like a hydraulic system or trans fluid getting hot/burning up. I haven't seen or located any leaks or noticed anything that gets abnormally hot. So for the professionals, are there any known issues to this point that may be the cause of this smell on 2011 V6/Auto Mustang (2.5 months old with 4,100 on the odo)? I haven't noticed it while there's good movement, just in stop and go traffic. My thought is the trans, since it's in a perpetual state of finding the optimal gear for fuel efficiency, and the gear hunting is causing excess heat in these conditions. If this is true, I know heat kills autos, so is this a big issue? Fixes? Install a temp gauge? Other suggestions?

I looked on the Ford website and there is no TSB's on any trans issues, although the 2010 mustangs have a rear diff vent that leaks fluid and is replace by a revised vent. I also haven't heard or seen any common issues with the trannys. Sorry I didn't have any better info for you.

Not a problem, thanks for looking. I may just be paranoid and looking for problems too. Didn't even think of checking the rear diff, I'll give that check.

Maybe overweight on gross?

Ouch...that hurt a little (I know whacha meant). With the exception of one haul, it's just me and work materials which is well under 350lbs, or me and the gf which is under 450.

You can get you a fancy transmission air fin from FoMoCo here in a few when the new 302 comes out. :D
