howdy ya'll

hey, just lookin' for info, mostly about F250/350, maybe a 150...
I got an '04 Ranger, lookin' to upgrade possibly. Seen some good deals, one in particular '08 SD 4x with the 5.4 and 6spd. Kinda like the idea of a diesel, but not sure it's worth it for my needs. My Ranger does 90% of what I ask of her, and in return she gives me an average of 20mpg. But dang those 250's got some nice ground clearance, and that payload!
Just need a good reliable truck, and honestly, I got one, but you know I can't help but look and dream.

Welcome :wavey:

If the Ranger fits your needs just fine then why jump all the way to a Super Duty? A big heavy Super Duty powered by a 5.4L is kind of a dog, compared to the diesel engines. Have you looked at the newer F150s? They're nice. And if you can afford a new one, the new 3.5L ecoboost will get great mileage with all the power of a V8.

hi everybody!
yeah, I was lookin' at the new 150's but an XLT 4x is still gonna cost me 30g's. One of my buddies talked me into just buying a used Cummins, for that kinda money. Things were so much simpler when I was broke, lol.
Oh, and btw, I've been readin' throuh some threads, everybody seems real nice and knowledgeable, no flaming and whatnot, gotta respect that.

Welcome! As suggested, unless you need to do crazy towing, check out an F-150... Ecoboost would be an awesome option for fuel savings.

I've heard about the EB but I also know it's an expensive option, and I believe they recommend you use premium grade unleaded. Not to mention, I just dig manual transmissions, ya know? Thinkin' I could bolt a turbo on the 5.4, and save up for a used Mustang if I need a better commuter. Good plan, eh?

They recommend premium, but it seems to run very well on regular.

Well, I test drove an "07 Cummins today, and then just for good measure took out an '09 F150 4.6L, ah, guess which one I plan on bringin' home tomorrow... I'll just say it's been nice spending time on here, and if it turns out to be a mistake, I'll let you all know...

Dude... You're comparing a Cummins to the red-headed stepchild (no offense Chris) of all Ford engines? The 4.6 is a gutless V8 that Ford never should have put in a fullsize truck. Test drive the 6.4 or better yet the 6.7 for a better comparison.

hehe, yeah I see your point, but it wasn't even the engine, ya know. I'll still just really like manual transmissions and transfer cases, and this 150 didn't have it, of course. And it just felt as wide as the Dodge, but it just didn't stroke my ego as much, lol. And the 150 had a faint musk of deer urine, (WTF?), no kidding. Not a bad lil truck but... still thinking.

wow..... your gonna compare the cummins to the F150? seriously? not even in the same league.... compare the cummins to a powerstroke and then make the decision...

Sure he is he can't even spell Y'all right. But Welcome anyway.

uhh, what?

yeah welcome...

So, yeah, ya know, that's what you do when you make a decision, compare the pro's and cons. Even if you are comparing apples to oranges, right? Do I want juice all over, or do I want skin in my teeth, you can compare the two.
In the case of my Ranger, like I said, it's been as realiable as a freakin' hammer, but the Cummins has some pretty sweet details: compass, thermometer, a back seat I can sleep on, 4wd, heated mirrors, etc, etc.
Is it overkill for my needs, maybe, like I said that F250 I saw with the 5.4 was a close second, probably be cheaper to operate than diesel, will I regret my decision I hope not, like I said, if it turns out poorly you can bet I'll be on here cryin' my guts out, don't worry there is still 4 other Fords in my immediate family, and whoever ends up with that Ranger is gonna get a great truck.
-you wanna run a spell check on that for me Ridgerunner?
anyway, to the rest of y'all good luck, be safe, and I'll see ya out there, regardless of what we're all drivin'
-Peace!
