Got one of the bolts but do I need to disconnect the outtake man. to access the second one? The reason I ask is because I am stuck...:headbang:
Theres 3 bolts, and the top one aint easy! Deepwell 13 mm and 4 inches of extensions (3" and a 1") lots of patience and bandaids!

Can't get at it with a 6" extension and a wobble joint?

Edit...looks like Vince gotcha the right length...take his word over mine.

Extensions like said above, but headers might complicate things a bit. The top bolt is hard enough without headers.

So in my shoes, Gawd forbid, would you take them off? I don't even know if these things are called headers, the exhaust pipes is what I mean.
I feel like a baby out there under the beast. Just jackin' it up gave me problems.
I'll try an' get a picture of her up here...

Which engine?

Never had a problem with starter bolts, ever, but I've always got out the
two foot extension, first thing. YMMV

Headers? :/
You're on your own dude. LOL :)
Stop cussing and think about all the cool times you enjoyed the headers.
So now, it's just pay-back time, that''s all. Hope you anti-seized the bolts. ;)

ps- I have a few knuckle sockets that have come in -real- handy...
1/2" (3/8" drive)
9/16" (3/8" drive)
5/8" (1/2" drive, impact-type with the ball and single pin! :)
Got others but those three are the "biggies". ;)

If it is just the exhaust pipe in the way no you do not have to take that out. If you have long tube headers then maybe you might. If it is just a stock truck with stock exhaust then using the tools blacksnapon suggested you should be able to get to it.

And Alvin I don't think you can even get a 2 foot extension near the starter

Your post popped up while I was "rattling on and on". :)
x2 on all what you said there. :)
BTDT! ...just been a long time for me to feel that way, is the only difference! :)

You can do this!
No kidding.
And, the more you do, the easier it gets too.

Pics would be cool, as always. :)

I've never had an issue with the wobble joint on the end of a 6" extension. Just have to be good at guessing where the bolt is and hope the socket is rotated accordingly to the bolt...usually takes me about 15 minutes and I'm by no means a professional.

So the bottom bolt went in one way, with the head facing the engine,
or front of the truck, and the top two come in from the rear.
Honestly I can hardly get a finger on them.
What's the space like "straight back" from them tho? :)
Don't need to touch them with your finger just a wrench or socket. ;)
Obstruction wrench...

When I was a kid it was called a "Ford starter wrench". :)
I've got a few of them but never needed one.

Just crawled under my '75 and realized I use a 2-foot -plus- a 1-foot.
