Just curious about the 'average' - before either failure or typical life of tie rod ends - inner & outer. I have a 2000 F-150 (V6) and have replaced both sides - passenger side let loose at about 95K, the driver side at about 130K. Luckily, the passenger side just fell off while I was at a local gas station (while parked!), the driver side let loose while driving about 25mph not far from where I live. That was an eye opener...
Is this something that I should consider replacing every 50-75K - just as a preventative measure? Not doing any hard driving, of course you'll have the occasional pot hole you don't see coming.
Since it's a pretty easy job, and pretty inexpensive, anyone replace them as a part of 'scheduled' maintenance?
Since both of mine have let loose (BOTH the outer), I really don't like the thought of losing on driving at 70MPH.
