Hi.

Hi I just tried to post in the welcome section, but everything got deleted. So I won't waste time with that, since hopefully you guys will be able to help me the most. My name is Justin. I'm from Williamsport PA and I just got a 1979 F250 4x4 4 speed with a 300 straight six motor. Here is a picture. I need a bed as this truck was used on a farm for a long time. Most of the rest of the body is in fair condition and so is the frame. I am thinking of putting a small lift and possibly some 33s on it. I am also thinking of a powertrax locker in the rear as I have one in my S-10 and love it, but don't know how they would hold up in a bigger truck. I will try and get it road worthy this summer and then start a restoration this winter. Here is a picture. Let me know what you guys think.

Welcome! Looks like you have a good find, I haven't seen many of the straight sixes.

Welcome to FTF Justin!

I have just a bit of knowledge about your truck, I own and have pretty well modified most things on my '79 F250 4x4. That being said there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here so don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Looks like a good start for a sweet truck. 33's will fit with NO lift.

A Powertrax will most likely hold up to 33's and a 300-6 as long as you don't get crazy abusive with the truck.

Looks great man...all I see is potential. I had a 76 250 with a 300/6 in it...dawgish, but it had guts where it mattered. As for a lift, 33's will fit stock. You can go as high as 4" lift before things start getting hairy and you need new dshafts, extended lines, etc. As for a locker...I'm not the guy to ask...so I'll defer.

Hey guys,
thanks for the replies. I will try to keep putting pictures up and kind of make this my project thread. The first thing I need to do is get a real liscense on it, instead of a farm tag. Then I am going to fix the brakes, change/check all fluids, and run it a little bit this summer. Hopefully I'll be going down to the Carlisle show in June for the Ford weekend to pick up some parts and start getting it looking a little nicer this winter. For the mean time, its in my grandpa's barn out of the rain and I am looking for a garage to work on it in.

By the way- all your trucks look awesome. I'd put a picture of my other truck on here but its a Chev, and I wouldn't want to make anybody mad on my third post.

Cheers

Nah, we wouldn't get mad until your 4th or 5th post smilieFordlogo

Nice looking project - and in great shape for that part of the country. Every one of them rusted out over the rear wheels and stake pockets at the back tended to rust apart. I bought a 77 new when I lived on the OH/PA line....

Updates

Alright- its been a while since I posted- got some new tires and cheap rims- Plans are to fix this thing up a little this summer- want to put a flat bed on- put in a detroit locker - fix up brakes- tires are BFG mud terrains - they are metric- but are about 34" tall- any ideas as to why my rear brakes are locking up instead of stopping my truck- also- any one know what spline count the rear axles are- i think its a dana 60- but i have no idea as to gearing or spline no.

Also- thinking of a 2.5" lift from rough country- any experience with this kit? - it comes with new from leafs- all new shocks- some blocks for the back and new Ubolt kit- don't wanna go to crazy- but i'm getting a little rubbing with these tires and i like the look of a little higher truck.

For the brake issue...I'd start by making sure all is in working order in the drum, and nothing is seized or too tight. Outside of that, my next destination to chack would be the proportioning valve.

As for the lift, it's cheap...and that's about all that's good about it in comparison to what else is out there.
