Hey

Name is Brian
Truck is an 89 f150 I6 4x4 shortbed

Hello,
I've had my truck for about 3 years, paid $300 for it and have only put maybe another $500 in it up to this point. Right now, it is down having the engine put back together after cracking the head in a couple places. While apart I cleaned and painted/coated whatever I could, and plan to do more this spring when I get my lift and 35s. It's an ugly truck, but I like it. When I got it, it was three different colors of red thanks to a wreck and wrong paint code for the front end. After a while, i got sick of it, sanded it down and sprayed it all flat black. It's not perfect, but at least it matches. I have a major issue that I need help on.

About 5 mos ago, it started having a problem where it would start perfect when cold, but after warming up I would either have to let it sit for an hour and cool down or pop start it. When it is warm, it doesn't crank, just clicks like a dead battery, or sometimes turns over very slowly. I replaced the starter, battery, alt, all cables, solenoid and still couldn't fix it. I finally gave up and just started parking where I could pop it if needed. After a while, the starter ate a flat spot in the flywheel, so popping it was my only option. Luckily, soon after that, it made some bad noises and started blowing smoke everywhere while losing all power. Got it home and found some big cracks around the valves. Ordered a head and am now waiting on some parts to finish getting it together.

Now, I've tried searching with no luck. What could be my starter issue? I replaced everything I could think of. I can't test anything now as it's apart, but I would like to have it start when I get it back together. I'll probably post more in the other sections soon. Thanks.
