Hey everybody i need a little help

Ok i have a hanes manual but it isnt really helping on this. I need to put a heater core in my 78 150 4x4 without a/c. I remove the the little vent box right near the door but as far as the big black box that hold the heater core it doesnt have bolts. It looks like some sort of spline ot rivet holding it in. It hasnt been done afterwards . You can tell its factory done so i figure somebody has saw these before. It doesnt seem hard. I unhhoked the cable and blower motor too. I havnt unhooked the hoses yet cause i want to get into it first and be sure i can do it. My biggest fear is breaking my dash or the heater box.

The bolts holding it are actually studs. The nuts are under the hood. Loosen the nuts on the passenger side firewall and the box will loosen up inside. You will have to loosen the hoses under the hood as well.

Autozone instructions are terrible. I took some pictures of the bolts. Trying to upload now.

Make sure you loosen or remove the nut/bolt on the bottom right side of the dash as the dash has to be pulled outward to get the plenum out.

Good time to replace the blower motor and heater core.

The above pic doesn't show enough detail. Where is the heater core? No see um.

1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 184, Page 1 shows everything.

Uh...will it fit a Toshiba Model P505 Satellite Laptop, or will I need a desktop?

'Course, since I'm spending next to no time on t'other site anymore (you know the reason why), with your gazillion pics/diagrams, I may not need to scan and post diddly here on FTF.

The OP didn;t need to see the heater core.

He needed to know how to get the heater plenum out of the truck because the heater core comes out with it.

 This is NOTHING! You oughtta hear us go "at it" on the telephone.

Neither one of us can get a word in edgewise, cuz we both are yellin' at each other...all in fun of course.

And, pretty soon, I'll have Dennis the Menace as a house guest. :rotz: I'm gearing up for that beforehand...so I'll be ready, and you can bet the farm...so will he.

Firat off...the Haynes manual will give you the basics....and the rest is what I call or refer to as a "period of discovery". This isn't any more difficult than the heater core and blower I replaced on my 76 2WD F-250. Its all held in place with studs and nuts on the engine side of the firewall. Theres really NO need at all to loosen up the dash to any extent. Its all a matter of how hard you want to make it. Clamp off the heater hoses on the engine side, vise grips with small portions of plywood work fine. Hose clamp pliers are better but in the feild you work with what you have. Their either 5 or 9/32nds screws over the right side vent cover. Heater cables are best MARKED with masking tape BEFORE you dis-connect them. Should be either three of four snaps over the main box. Remove the nuts on the engine side of the firewall and then back to the cab side: This is where a little finesse and patience and time takes its hold. GENTLY, pull and tug and have the entire area lit up like the fourth of july with alot of light. If this is your first time in on it, allow about an hour to get it out...and about 10 minutes to R and R the core. One word of caution: some parts houses stock different sizes of heater cores....be REAL sure what you get is EXACTLY what comes out of it. Questions? I know this one by heart....done my own about 3 times now. And while your at it...may as well R and R the blower motor too. Murphys law says.....about the time you do one...the other one WILL go bad in a given period of time. Try NAPA.....I've never had a single problem with them.

I can't wait to hear about the visit. Hope you all don't kill each other over a diagram LOL

Thisis the best forum ive been in. You guys are awesome and i really appreciate all of you goin to the trouble to show me how to do this job. I had no idea the bolts where under the hood. I saw them but thought they where nothing to do with the heater core. Thanks again now i can do this job myself with no problems!!
