I'd suggest just going and getting the whole cam kit...cam, lifters, Timing set (which I didn't see on the list), push rods and springs (also didn't see on the list). If you're dropping the coin anyway, what's another couple hundred to have NEW matching parts. At the very least it'll give you some peace of mind. As fpr the cylinder heads, do have another set you're going to use? Aftermarket? Refresh yours? I don't know much about the SB heads, but a good head refresh typically runs $400 and would be the route I'd go.

WOAH!!!!!!!!!! i just called the guy that has the E7s, ive talked to him a few times and he said he was going through his piles of parts and and he said he found some GT40 heads. hes going out to double check to make sure but hes pretty sure they are GT40 heads. and he also said they were already drilled out for 351W cause he had them on a 5.8 but pulled them off only to put some new ones he ordered out of a catalog on.

I see it now, you got it in there while I was posting.

Hmmm...interesting. Call Comp, see what they have. Or figure out what springs you'll need. After doing some reading, I decided you'd never reach the potential of the cam without the right springs. So yeah, it'll show improvement, but not what it could be. Besides, the springs you'll be using are old an worn out. Springs are only $100 or so +/- $50.

Personally, I'll never go anything but Cloyes again. I went with a Comp true double roller in the Bronco and when compared to the Cloyes single non-roller street set up, it's ridiculous the difference in quality. It was like the difference of a quarter machine ring or something from Tiffany's. So here again, spend the extra $50.

I'm getting good at spending your money, aren't I?

Yeah...I don't mean to be spending your money, I just figure if you're gonna do it, do it at one time, cuz if something goes awry...you'll be wishing you spent the couple extra hundred up front in stead of needing to do a tear down again and spending alot more later.

well im doing this to get by for a couple years then it will be all torn down again and swapped to MAF and a probably a 393 or 408 stroker kit thrown in.

Do it the right way the first time. I understand the budget thing well. I tried to save money when I put my engine in and that gave me nothing but aggravation. If I were to do it again I would struggle to get the extra money just to avoid any potentional issues with saving money.

Just wait and find the GT40 heads.

Personally I would keep looking if you want GT40 heads. No sense in just settling for a set of heads.

I'm with Sean...you started with a plan, stick to the plan. You know what you want, so stick with it and don't compromise.

I'm also with Sean on the fact that even if you have to save another month, do things right.

I would definitely stick with the plan you are going with. So what if it takes a little extra time and money. It will last longer in the end and be more enjoyable. Settling in the end is like buying a Chevy...oh wait smilietease smilietease smilietease
