Has anyone moved the engine forward

Hey guys I have a question about moving the engine perches forward in a 1978 f100. I bought a truck with a 351c and the engine just trashed the c4 tranny that was backing it. After going to the junkyard picking up a c6 and every thing needed for the swap, I had the c6 rebuilt and installed it just to find it sits about 2inches back from where 351m would. This brings me to another problem, the shift linkage is not long enough for the shift arm on the transmission.....not to mention the not knowing what driveshaft to use yet........it's been fun:headbang:

I think your problem is getting a tranny that won't mate to your engine. The C and M had different bell patterns. You'll need a small block C6 to mate to the 351C.

I have to agree with Vince.....it'd be 10 times easier to lengthen the linkage and shorten the shaft. Ben, I hope he didn't just drop that coin into a BBF trans.

Same here...guess I wasn't thinking about SBF C6's at the time of my original post...but it wouldn't be the first time I've heard of someone dropping the coin on something to realize at the end it won't work.

Thanks guys that just confirms what I wanted to do from the start.....and I pulled a c6 from a 351w to match the bolt pattern.....now the exhaust wants to hit the side of the shift linkage.

Are the manifolds from a car or E-series van ?

My truck has a pair of header that are probably from a car, but they have been clearances around the perches. The headers just bring the pipes in a little closer than they were on the c4 that gave up.
