My brother has a 73 F100 240-6 and it has a 2 groove harmonic balancer and he is going to add power steering from a donor 79 F100 300-6 and had the 3 groove harmonic balancer. Can the 3 groove balancer interchange from a 300-6 to the 240? To add power steering, does he even need the 3 groove or can he use the 2 groove balancer for the power steering pump?

OK, we were worried that the 3 groove balancer off the 300 would be balanced different for some reason than the 240 and it wouldn't interchange. Of course my brother didn't take it off before the truck was crushed, so he'll have to buy a new one. I was looking at rock auto and they don't seem to be too bad.

NOT!

There are three different triple sheave harmonic balancers, one was only used on 1979's sold new in CA.

There is no such thing as a double sheave harmonic balancer for any 1973/74 240 or 1973/79 300.

The EZ method: Add a single sheave outer pulley to the double sheave balancer. This is one way Ford did it.
