Finally put "new" wiper blades on the '97 today. They're actually the factory ones from the '09, I took 'em off that truck within 24 hours of picking it up and replaced them with winter blades.

The ones that came off the white truck, I put on there in January of '05...and then, I took 'em off my Mom's Explorer before she traded it in. They were probably purchased in the fall of '04, and have been in use (and stored outside) since.

Actually worked pretty well up until maybe a month or two ago...

holy crap. I don't think I've ever run a set of blades more than about 18 months. By then they're so far gone I can't stand it any more and need new ones.

These lasted a long time and were really good. Long enough I got it into my head that I wanted to see how long I could run 'em...

Two weeks ago, though, I was about ready to roll down my window and drive home with my head sticking out like a dog, so I figured it was time.

tried the winter blades for the first time this year and I really liked them.

I'll never run without 'em in the winter again, if I can avoid it. I'd forgotten how awful regular blades are until I was bringing the new truck home from the dealer in a snowstorm- the blades were iced up so bad there wasn't even any point in turning them on... I cleaned 'em off once, but they just iced right back up.

I do think, though, that the heavier blades put a hurting on the wiper arm bushings- the ones in my white truck are pretty sloppy. IMO, that's still better than iced blades, though.
