Good buy?

I've just started looking for a truck to buy and I knew I had to get a dent side just because I love the looks. I found this 1976 (possibly 1975) F100 4x4. The seller is asking 6000$ obo. He says it has a 360 cu with a 2bbl carb, a 4 inch lift kit with a 3 inch body lift, a 4 speed transmission, and headers on his ad. I emailed him asking him about specifics of the truck. He told me nothing has been replaced or rebuilt. Everything is stock except for the lift kit and tires. He did say the engine had been bored out from a 360 to a 390. This is a little suspicious because I've done my research and 1. the FE engines are bad to bore out and 2. The 360 and 390 engines are identical except the 390 has a shorter stroke. So one would only need to replace the internals to make a 360 into a 390. The other weird thing he said was the truck had 56k on it but the last owner told him it had "turned over since". I have no clue what that means. Anyways here is the truck. So do yall think? Is it a nice buy or over priced?

It is one of those things that depends on where you are & what the local market is. I would think that 6k is a bit steep and the owner doesn't seem to in to it. Says nothing has been rebuilt but then says the motor was built in to a 390. Not really a big deal but would go over it carefully. Really good price or not is subjective if you are happy & seller is happy that is the defination of a good deal to me.

I think 6K is high. Hard to tell from the pics, but I don't see the FORD on the tailgate which means it's aftermarket el cheapo so that has been replaced. But, hard to see. When you catch people in a lie (not saying the owner is) than everything is fishy. From the pics though, it looks nice except for the mismatched tailgate.

What a load of BS.

The seller hasn't a clue (or is a bald face liar), cuz he claims the 360 engine was bored out to 390. In two words: Im Possible!

The 360 and 390 share the same engine block, so the bore is the same (4.05"), only the stroke is different. 360: 3.50" / 390: 3.78"

Do not believe the mileage, because... The odometers of these trucks read to 99,999.9 ... then return to ZERO!

This appears to be a 1976 because it has amber parking lights, first offered mid-year 1976.

And since it's a 1976, it's subject to passing a smog test, cuz CA smog tests all 1976 and newer vehicles.

Look at the engine pic. Where is the Thermactor Emission system (smog pump and related parts), the EGR valve and related parts? No see um.

All would have been there originally, plus the Evap Emission system, and from what I can...it's not there either, because part of it attaches to the air cleaner.

CA requires that all the original emission related parts must be on the vehicle and in working order. If it cannot pass smog, it cannot be registered...it's as simple as that.

The air cleaner is an autoparts store replacement, as are the valve covers, oil caps, funky radiator hose. The wheels are not original, nor is the tailgate, or the rear bumper...or the roll bar and lights.

The CA plates are not original, it would have had blue plates originally and...CA requires a front license plate.

This Santa Monica native sez: You don't want it...the smog related parts are missing...the seller hasn't a clue...it's overpriced...PASS!

btw: I wonder if this person is aware that in CA, it's the sellers responsibility that a vehicle pass a smog test.

Price is too high and it doesn't sound like the seller knows his @$$ from fat meat. There are better trucks for less out there.
