I really want to see a 4 door sports car in Lincoln clothing. That's what I'm waiting for, that's the niche I want to Lincoln competing with against Cadillac. I'd be the first in line to buy a 4 second 0-60, 400hp, rwd, full size sedan. Caddy does it, the Europeans do it, so there's a market. A guy can dream, right???
Right there with ya Ben, build a RWD 5.0 powered sedan and matching coupe an you're good!
You stated the problem, GM and the Euros have a high end sedan tough market to get into.
And FoMoCo has a high speed sedan, its called the Falcon...
They've already got the 3.5 ecoboost in the mks, 355hp. Problem is the platform it's on is so damn heavy and even with awd it is still a fwd platform with a transaxle and the engine facing the wrong way. So there is a bunch of weight over the front end of the car and it handles like poo despite all the bandaids they put on it.
Lincoln is taking a bottom up approach and starting with the entry level cars with fancied up ford platforms (fusion, taurus, escape). Not what the enthusiasts want to see, but it is what makes most of the money for the luxury brands. Some articles I've read seem to suggest that Ford/Lincoln is waiting to see how well the MKZ does before investing heavily in the "halo" offerings.
There is a smaller line of "nano" v6's coming for the mkz and other Lincolns as well, around 2.7L and over 350hp. Next gen ecoboost. If any of the rumors going around are true it could get very interesting for Lincoln in the coming years. I've also heard some rumors about the coyote v8 (5.0) getting ecoboost.. which would be absolute insanity for output, considering the n/a version makes over 400hp as is.
I agree with that Paul...everything except the crappy handling.
The OL's MKZ amazes me with the way it handles and drives.
