So Ernie as long as were on this topic. Why is it, in your humble opinion after spending most if not all your adult life in the car biz, American manufacturers are either so far behind the times in these "Alternatitive" fuel type vehicles or so resistant to their production?

Yes I understand consumer demand for "regular" vehicles if you will. But the writing has been on the wall for a long long time that these days were coming. I have to think that 20 years ago if one of the big three had put their dollars into some of these other vehicles instead of business as usual that they would not be in the same crisis they are today. Might still be in trouble but crisis?

The Taurus was a good car, but the GL had tranny problems until '96.
They would usually fail around 130,000-150,000 miles.
I had a '95 Taurus GL, that the tranny failed in at 149,983 miles.
That was in 2002, and at that time the cheapest I could find a used tranny was around $1,200 bucks.
I ended up selling the car for $1,500, and buying a '85 Escort GT for $250 bucks, that had just been repainted, and had a brand new 1.9 HO engine.
It was going to be a present for the guy's nephew when he graduated from college, but his nephew did something really stupid, and went to prison for around 15 to 20 years.
So he just wanted the car out of his garage.

Just get a '10 F150 with the 4.4L Powerstroke V8, or the 350hp 3.5L Ecoboost turbo V6. Those will get you 30MPG.

Nope its real, Ford is just draggin their feet and testing the waters with the new F150 to see how people react.

The project seems to be on hold for now, but pickup sales have picked back up and it seems that ford may come thru in the future. Its like my other thread where the full-size Bronco was originally designed in '72 for a '73 release, but then the oil crisis happened, and the project was shelved until '77 when it was released as a '78. Anything can happen.
