Ford Flex

Was up at the local Ford store today, waiting while they did a little work on my father's car.

They had a new Flex that looked like it just came off the truck yesterday (still plastic on the wheels and stuff).

Not really sure what I think about them; it may be too wagon-ish for some, and the fuel mileage may not be good enough, but the back seat sure did look roomy. Not a vehicle I'd ever aspire to owning, for sure, but I guess I do prefer it (slightly) to the Edge.

If you haven't seen the magazine pics of it yet:

The one I saw was all white. Looked better, mostly, but those "creases" down the side were more noticeable, and I just don't get why they're there.

same thing here - mixed feelings. i don't remember all of them, but i thought it had some cool features available. one was a mini-fridge in the console. i could see "Weekenders" being sold on it just because of the fridge ...kinda neat.

I Think it looks like an old Studebaker Wagon...

Yep, I was right.

Coolers, even ones that double as a console, can be had for less than a hundred bucks.

Love the pic of the Flex, tho; that sign above the windshield says it all ;)

(See pic above) they evan had a cooler then

for some reason, if it's a factory option it's worth more money and that much more awesome.

average gps that you can take anywhere including your car: $150
putting it in the dash from the dealership: $600

Finance it into the deal and that cost doubles, lol....

The worst of it is that at least the add-on units, you can always make shut up.

The freakin' factory ones won't even let you turn them off without the car being in Park. (I don't like navigation, I like maps. But if I had a nav unit, I'd want it to be equipped with a large, red button that said "STFU" and could over-ride ANYTHING else and make the unit be quiet.)

They had a Vista Blue (my favorite color) Shelby Mustang convertible in the showroom- $11k worth of Shelby stuff, according to the sticker, on top of the $37k list price... Gorgeous piece of machinery.

Only other Ford car I really like is the Fusion. It may not be thrilling, but it's attractive, comfortable, and relatively economical. Not to mention, a Blue Oval and a clutch pedal.

In fairness, Doc, my opinion may be a little bit biased...

(Actually, I never really wanted a white vehicle, and don't really want another one. But I like 'em better than I did before I had this.)

Ya know, I actually drove one of those Scion boxes, and came away impressed as all get-out. It was a tiny car, but it had TONS of room inside, and good power as long as I stayed one gear lower than I thought I should be (little Japanese engines always like to wind).

I just can't figure out who's going to be buying this thing...it's not sexy, tough, or stylish, and the minivan shows how likely people are to buy things just because they're well-configured inside.

On the other hand...24 mpg highway (EPA), AWD, 4100 lb tow rating. It'll do all the SUV stuff most people want, while sucking less gas and maybe handling a little better.

kick me out of the ford club now, but i do kinda like the honda elements. design is a little ugly, but i like how you can hose the whole thing out. lots of innovative ideas in it. ...too bad its a honda
