Where does the difference lie?

I remember a discussion on this a couple of years ago but not exactly the outcome so i did a quick google search and came up with this article http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/28738_ford_basics/viewall.html

Possibly both of those flywheels won't work if you are running a post 1981 engine block due to balancing issues but as far as the difference goes there doesn't seem to be any - here is a listing out of Dallas for pre 80s flywheel and they list the same flywheel for 289,302 and 351w

Tooth count on the ring gear. Seems to me there is 157 and 164 tooth units.
