That's a good point Matt. I've been thinking this Fanatic thing over and have come up with some good reasons why this might not be the best thing for this forum. Just one is the fact that several members are on fixed incomes or low incomes and it would only prove to alienate those members.
I agree with you on that it's just that everyone can't afford it and it might make them feel ashamed that they can't help the site in that way. You've got to realize that it costs money to run this site, I doubt that even the amount they get from 'fanatic's' will cover that. Unless you have a massive user-base and many sponsors, the books just don't balance out without some kind of fee. It's not like you're being forced to pay it, think of it that way.
To the first question. There absolutly is a secondary way to become a "Fanatic" I just made an update in the announcement this morning in response to another users question.
Money orders to FTF's P.O. Box will be accepted and "Fanatic" status will be manually applied.
FTF does cost money to run and I don't think anyone here believes any different. Not wanting to or being able to afford to, whatever the issue, is NO problem to us. People support the site in lots of ways that don't involve money. First and foremost they participate in the site. Start threads, participate in threads look into get togethers etc.
I don't see being a non fanatic any differently then choosing to be a fanatic. If it fits and works then we would love to have ya, if it dosen't then it dosen't. No biggie.
We appreciate all the support of our members, be it through monetary donations, or just spreading the word about us. Contrary to popular belief, we do respect and appreciate what everyone of you do for us. If it weren't for you all this site would be nothing.
Again thanks for everything guys and gals.
