It has been a long time since I have swapped engines from one size to another.
I plan on pulling the FE motor from my 73 and dropping in a 302.

Do I need to change engine perches?

Not too familiar with that swap, but I'm gonna say yes you will, and don't forget the FE tranny won't match the 302. I belive user 5.0 did a 335 series to a 302 swap, haven't seen him around much, but shoot him a PM and I'm sure he could help ya some. And if you are going with the 302, that means I get the 400...woooooooohooooooooo...haha, just messin cliff.

I will be getting a sbf bellhousing so I can use the 3 in the tree. There might be a real good chance Ben. Let me get it all home.

If you are talking about the perches from the frame, the anser is 100% absolutly no dobt about it yes. And get them BEFOR you pull the old motor out and have your driveway all full of non operational vehicles and no way to get the right ones. Because then you have to put the old FE back in hook most everything back up find the parts you got mad at and threw because "That (*&&*%* motor aint never going back in this *(&%^%^ truck agian!" befor you can go to the salvage yard and get the right perches.

sorry but that just brought up so agrivation for some reason[confused] just did this swap last summer. Love the results more than doubled my milage, and alot more parts available alot cheaper:cooldude: smiliepeelout

Why does this sound like the voice of experience talking? smilieeatndrink

one other thing the there is one bolt on the driverside under the steering box that I believe was placed there for purly sadistic reasons. Mine got cut out and did not get replaced. Buy new bolts to replace the ones you take out and use Nylock nuts, for some reason the lock washers aint holding on mine. I replaced them twice befor the Nylocks and now they are no more problems.

If you use a 302/5.0 with the litle air tubes on the back of the head you have 2 choices that I know of. Make a plate to block that hole off or bend the flange at the firewal down. No big deal either way but one or the other has to be done.

I think the technical term of the parts you threw are referred to as dammit parts...because you always yell dammit right as you throw it.

Yes I quit goin to em for parts now I go to napa or parts plus. Today I went and got 6 u joints for the 72 and they had five so the other one will be in tomorrow. That truck also has the screwy ones that are longer one way than the other and they nailed it on the first try. I had to wait three days for one from autozone and it took em two tries to get it right.

The truck doesn't run now so there goes parts. Does the year of perches matter?

the 302 I'm getting is from a 76. the bolt hole you are talking about for the frame perches?

I plan on throwing a lot of dammit parts.

Don't think year matters at all.

The bolt I was refering to is for the perch on the driverside. It is the one on top of the frame directly under the steering box. I will get a pic of it when I get home from work this evening.
