Electrical dilemma

Hello everyone! I have a 1973 F-250 with a 390 for power. I recently tried to swap the good battery I had in it for a battery that was fresh off the charger but when I hooked the freshly charged battery up, the fusible link that runs from the solenoid to the alternator immediately fried. I do my own mechanics & this told me I had a dead-short somewhere. I've since replaced the solenoid, alternator, voltage regulator, & checked most of the wiring under the hood for shorts but nothing obvious. It still acts like there is a Major short in the system, even with the ignition & the main harness in the cab next to the steering column unplugged. I would appreciate any ideas as to what could be the problem as i've tried everything I can think of Thanks, northernboy.

I'd think there is a chafe in the pos/neg batt cable, just enough to short the system ....corrosion, rust, loose body connection....
You've done everything else...change out the battery cables....$20 bucks

Still Da Man
The ignition key harness is not part of the column wiring
Only the power signal for start runs through the column wiring nSS

Check from the fuse box to ground..the back of the fuse box
