E brake cables

Long and short of it is the two axle cables are non existent on dent. My question is can the new cables be installed with the rear pads and everything in place or do i have to strip the pads springs etc etc.. I am working the next two days and will be installing the cables wed and i just want to know exactly what i am getting into before i start as i spend 4 hours removing a park brake equalizer from a truck in the woods yesterday. 4 hours comprised of shoveling 4 feet of snow away from the truck to find out that there was no tires on the truck and it was resting on the axles. Going to find a suitable jack jacking and blocking the truck realizing didnt have proper tools, goin getting proper tools, removing it and getting stuck under the truck for 30 mins. ps this truck is 20 mins up the highway in the woods. Yes i am dedicated or crazy whatever you want to call it

Removing them (the cables) from the backing plate is no fun...the shop manual suggests to "compress and remove"..pffft. I am fairly sure that you will have to disassemble the rear shoes to install the new brake cables.
Edit..you will have to remove the shoes and associated stuff.

Are you removing the cables from the truck in the woods? If so, I wouldn't bother because those are probably froze up and won't work.

As previously stated, you'll have to remove the rear drums in order to install E brakes.

No i got brand new cables i was removing the parking brake equalizer from the truck in the woods because it was missing from my truck and i needed it

Gotcha......Anyway.....you shouldn't have any problems installing the e brakes to your truck. Do you have the cable that runs from the E brake pedal to the equalizer?

all other cables are intact and working also look to be in decent shape but the two goin to the axle from the equalizer were snapped roughly 6 inches from the rear of the drum
