First time I've picked up a bump with the spare and mount actually under the truck...

I've heard of ford trucks of the era having spares under the bed...but that's just hearsay with no facts backing it up...I've never had or seen one on any of the trucks I've had or been around.

IME Dodge had black wheels "back when" that were 5-on-5.5 found one with
a new tire on it in '75 that fit my new pickup. LOL

And yeah the tire carrier looks like the one I had to pay extra for for my '75.
It's listed on my build sheet.

One of the wheels on my parts truck is Dodge (the best one, believe it? the
other three are -Ford's sick and twisted- 5+1/2 inch wide originals. :/

Look for stamps on the wheel and tell us!

I just remember the Firestone that blew out on me and scared the crap out
of me at 19 years old driving the company truck on I-10 through a mountain
pass near Dragoon. I remember that day pretty good.

Brand new '72 F250 4 speed 300-I6 with 10 ply rated 10.50-16.5's.
Funny I coulda died in a Ford bumpside... my favorite looking pickup! LOL
Transportation industry was the 2nd most dangerous job in the US back then.

I had hauled an "over-load" of track batteries to Gila Bend the day before and
was hauling another full load to Bowie.

Wanted to order 16" wheels on my '75 but the salesman warned me that they
would be split rim. :/ Chevy had the tube type regular rims for the 7.50-16's
already, but Ford was a little "old school" when it came to their pickups in
certain ways. The 7.50-16's were tube type at the time, but we were running
them tubeless on the Chevys.

When you get a little thorn in a tube it acts kinda like a balloon.
...compared to a tubeless tire. My record was 3 nails in one tire, 2 nails
in another and 2 more nails in another the 4th tire (driver's front) and
spare was clean. They were found on a routine 3000 mile oil change.
The new tubeless tires kicked butt! LOL That was my first company
truck signed out to me to take home, a '71 C20 with a plumb worn out
292 and a 4 speed. It was hard to start and was so worn out I could
turn it over 45 minutes and not run the battery down! LOL

What you see in Post 31 is factory, and was first used in the 1930's.

In 1973, Ford began offering an optional underbed tire carrier that could be cranked down...otherwise getting the spare tire off is a royal PITA.

1932/66: The bottle jack was installed inside the spare tires wheel.

If you wanted Radials, you had to buy them from a tire store...if you could find a tire store that carried them.

Who invented the Radial Tire? Michelin.

What was the first vehicle that came with Radials as standard equipment? 1955 FWD Citroen.

What was the first US car to offer Radials as standard equipment? 1966 FWD Olds Toronado.

Ford did not offer Radial tires on any truck until the mid 1970's and then only as an option.

Basically, thru the early 1980's, all trucks came with bias-ply tires.

Most Ford trucks came with Firestone's as original, tho the customer could request any 'ol tire.

Lemme add something here, Ford offered their own brand of tires in the 1930's.

Firestone and Ford

Firestone and Ford go back to the beginning. Stock tires would be Firestone and for this Gen would be mounted on a split rim.
8.15 X 15 - 4 or 8PR.PT for the F-100
8.00 X 16.5 - 8 or 10PR.TT for the F-250

The brochure shows G78-15 for my '75 but it (F150) came with H78-15Cs.
Not real sure of the brand tho. :/ Just know they weren't Goodyear is all.

And it came with 5+1/2" wide wheels that were so narrow the pickup drove
squirrely as heck too. :/

It never drove worth anything until I got 7x16" wheels and 235/85-16E tires!

on it, the same stinkin 5+1/5x 15" (5 on 5.5) suckers, might use them if I

All correct except one thing- the '66 Toronado didn't come with radials. The first American car to come std. with radials was the '68 Lincoln Mark III. They were Michelins, and Ford made a big deal about it in their advertising that year.
