Ahh, I remember the days of you saying how great a car this was. what did you trade for it again?

OK Chris, have you ever changed the transmission fluid? If not, do you know how long it's been since it was changed? From personal experience, I was made a believer. The friction modifiers get tired in the old fluid and fresh (in my case) cured the problem. Also, your pickup screen might be clogged with the gunkies and (I'm not familiar with the Corsica) during the change you might be able to access the pickup screen and clean/replace it.

Last time I changed a trans filter on a new to me it craped out...

This thread brings the funnay in so many ways. But I'll spare the flaming and jokes. From what limited knowledge I have about transmissions, especially chevy transmissions, any band adjustments? Beyond that, I'd advise a fluid change with the correct fluid as well, but not a complete flush...it's been my experience that that can cause gunk that's keeping stuff in place to dislodge and cause old trannies to crap out.

Beyond that, can you turn off the OD or manually put the selector in drive? Seems a lot cheaper and at the very least buy some time. Shouldn't be that much worse on gas unless you're constantly over the 45mph mark.

The ranger looks nice, but considering the economy, if you could get a bank loan and cash shop personal sales, you could get a similar truck with maybe 70k+ miles on the clock for more than half that cost. Of course, if you don't mind spending the extra cash, than go with this....I just personally don't see a ton of difference between 57k and 70 or 80k. You'll most likely be up to the 70k-80k next year this time anyways.
