check engine light on, rough idling in the morning

Hi, i have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L , auto. I just had a timing belt gasket, t-stat, water pump, radiator replacement. That was not even a week ago. It is very cold also where i live in Pa. I went out Sunday to start the truck and noticed it trembling a little bit. I let it warm up and went inside. I came out 10 minutes later and the slight shaking went away.
The next day i went out to go to work and started the truck up. There was no trembling, i went inside to let it warm up a little.
The truck seems to be running good with same power as usual too.
I came back out and the check engine light was on. Seems like it might stay on now. Need some help on this one, i just spent $1,200 on this POC and would like to diagnose and possibly fix myself.

sounds like a canidate for a tune up. normally when plugs start to fail, they fail on cold starts due to more fuel being injected when cold before going into cold loop. if you can get the code read at autozone do it. make sure you buy a good plugs and depending on the mileage wires.

OK, went to Advanced auto after work and the guy used the scanner thing. It read P0306, #6 cylinder misfire. So i guess it might be time for plugs? I have 55,000 on the truck that i bought 2 yrs. ago.
What kind of plugs are quality and last?
Should i get wires also?
How do i reset the check engine light? Do i take the battery cables off and touch them together?
And yes, i am posting again, i have the worst luck with vehicles.

If its cost efficient, yes, its better to get plugs and wires. That way you're sure about them. It'll say on your information sticker (usually on the radiator support) what plugs to get.

I just took out plug #6 and they look like they may be the original. They are motorcraft along with the wires, and look old. So i guess i will replace the plugs and wires for now.
