Changed Solenoid and starter was gone, then put in a starter, now nothing

Hi all and someone help please. I have a 64 that wouldnt start it had sat up, changed the battery then tried to start it, so replaced starter solenoid, and I will admit I may have put some wires wrong with it as this took me a long time, couldnt just get on it and finish it, so help there would be nice, then no start, someone had stolen the starter from under it, then got a starter on it, only saw one wire, was there something else to connect? Oh yeah, did I mention is has a transplanted 351 with an automatic in it? HELP!!!!!!!!!
