Cam sensor

96 150,300 6CYL,AUTO,4X4.cHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.Codes were cleared,Codes were for cam sensor and running lean.light came back on again 1/2 later.Is it possible cam sensor is bad or if it even has a cam sensor.I have owned Ford trucks for nearly 40 years and only had cam sensor problem in an old power strok several years ago.

Seems to me the cam sensor is the distributor, or part of it.
