I was at the parts store checking on rebuild kits for my break calipers. I seen a box of caliper paint. Why does calipers require special paint? I would think a can of Rustoluem would work.
OH, I'm so proud! Our little swine is growing up!Under hard braking, calipers are subject to extreme heat.
Wow, did I just type that??? OH NO! I made a tech post!

I'd imagine it would have something to do with heat transfer. So it's probably a higher temp paint.
I feel funny.
In that case wouldn't engine paint be better?
We both posted at the same time. Great minds think alike. Not sure how you fit in there though...![]()
You just took what I said and rewrote it more eloquently (Check who posted first haha). So don't feel like you've completely broken your useless post streak.
I don't know the temp tolerances of the caliper paint you were looking at...so who knows...it may be the same thing, just rebadged. But I'd imagine engine paint would have a higher tolerance...but you might have to worry about heat disapation.
If it were me...I'd just check the temp tolerances of all the paint in question. If your Krylon is close to the caliper paint...I wouldn't see any harm. I'd also check the caliper tolerance against the engine paint tolerance...my guess is, the engine paint will have a far higher tolerance...in which case would retain heat resulting in slower dissapation...which could result in warping of sorts.
I will definitely check it all out. Thanks
No worries Cliff. I, unlike Tony, am glad I could post something somewhat technical.
but Tony might not show back up
