buying junkyard seats

i'm planning on going to the junkyard tonight to get some different seats (hopefully some that will fit my old seat covers)

few questions
-any 92-96 model seats should bolt right in, right?
-do the newer f150 and superduty seats bolt in or is fab required?
-can i get anything that fits, as long as i can get a bracket made?
-how much should i expect to pay for a set of 40/20/40s?
-any guess how much a shop would charge to make a bracket for them?

My brother installed Super Duty seats in his truck. There's no 'fabrication' required but you do have to drill your own holes in the floor and supply your own hardware -- it really ain't that hard.

BUT! I would advise against it. Those seats are a LOT bulkier than the stock seats in these trucks. Nobody can squeeze past them to get into the back seat anymore unless they're anorexic. I don't care for the comfort (or lack-thereof) of those seats either. The regulars 40/20/40 is a much better option in my opinion YelloThumbUp

i bought the same exact ones i had in my old truck. 40/20/40s. $70. they're blue, slide forward, etc. little dirty and a couple rips, but nothing my seat covers won't fix.

i'll get to installing them next week - i'm sure i'll have questions then. i know they should bolt right in, but who knows what the deal with my aftermarket is as far as bolts and stuff. pics to follow when i'm done

Those seat r $300 here . The jumper alone is $150 + At times.

I am looking myself and found some sets. We have a sd at work thats seats r almost the same. and comfy . Gladu found some.

anyone have a secret formula for getting rid of "junkyard funk"?

Planning on some plastic scrubbing and fbreeze. Anyone had good luck with some magic upholstery stuff?

I don't want to install them and have them rank.

when i put seats in my ranger from a tempo, i used some carpet cleaner and a power washer to clean mine. couldnt even tell they came from a junkyard after I got done with them.

When I put the 88 escort GT (halo headrest) buckets in my 89 ranger, I used a couple of cans of carpet shampoo (scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush) and then vacuumed them.

I took the carpet out and took it down to the car wash. I washed it until the black stopped running. EWWW! Then rinsed and let dry for several days.

i like the car wash power-washer idea. i guess if i'm not getting to them until next week anyway, no reason not to drench them now.

update: power-washed them on my way to work this morning.

i think they look a lot better. there was some nasty layers of filth coming off there. its hard to tell b/c they're drenched and now sitting in my truck in the rain the rest of the day.

i'll let them dry out over the weekend and hopefully get them installed next week. i looked at the bolts and everything, and it looks easy enough for even me to do the swap.

i'm not planning on hooking up the power lumbar unless there is a plug for them right there when i take out the old seats, and i'm kinda doubting that. anyone know if the power lumbar seats were an option in 93, and if so, did all trucks get the power plug run to the seats? it's an XLT by the way - seems pretty "loaded"

they're in - it was easy - pulled 4 bolts, pulled the old seats and then bolted the new ones in...couldn't be easier.

before:
+looked nice
-didn't slide
-were horribly uncomfortable
-didn't fit my seat covers that my wife gave me

after
-gross underneath seat covers
+fit seat covers
+slide
+more comfy
+sit up higher in the truck

Looks good.

I believe the most comfortable vehicle seats I've ever ridden in are those 40/20/40 gen-9 seats.

(If you didn't wire the power up, I wonder if you could just jumper the right pins to a 12v power source long enough to get the lumbar set where you want it. Probably not worth it if you're comfortable as-is, just a thought.)

so far i think i'm comfortable as-is. i looked while i was messing with them and it looks like the wires were cut anyway. ...like you said - odds are not worth it
