Bronco Interior Color Change

Let me preface with this did not turn out nearly as well as I was hoping it would. I grabbed some fabric dye/paint from Autozone and went at it. It was a little more sloppy than I anticipated and didn't quite penetrate the way I was hoping. I'm sure that could have been due to my impatience...or possibly the fact it's crushed velvet and not cloth. However, the old color really shows through with the light flash from my camera. In person, it's hardly noticeable. Either way, it's definitely a step up from the Brown and Gold...and now it's Brown and Black. I'm not entirely sure I like the color combo, but at least now anything and everything that WAS gold is gone. For an afternoon and $35 in paint/dye it was worth it. Here are the pics:

And for anyone interested, this is what the Eastwood Chrome paint came out like:

Regardless...better than it was, and I can always do it again.

Now I need to ditch the makeshift gray carpet in the rear. I was thinking of going with a rubber bed mat and cut to fit.

Well, I gotta say, the dark is better than the Puff Daddy Gold, lol!
Unfortunately the crushed velvet is synthetic, and doesn't take a dye very well. Any "wear" points are going to transfer outta there on the next pair of levis.
Unless they've developed a magic formula, you may be doing it again soon-
Not trying to cast a cloud on the deal- it looks nice, but I'd avoid the light color shirts for a while there-
If you wait a little bit and go at it with blue coral cleaner, whatever remains should be safely locked.
I like it, tho!

Thanks man...I actually used the same stuff I used on a seat I had in Red for about 3-4 years. But different seat materials yielded a better result in Red. But yeah, after about 6 months or so, you could tell the high traffic areas. By the time I swapped the seat out, those high traffic areas were all but back to the original color.

As for this blue corral cleaner...applied with a rag? Steam cleaner?

Micro-Fiber works best, since it's like brush bristles. I regular rag would just pass over and with Steam Cleaning/hot water extraction you risk losing the "set" or the texture of the crushed velvet. Use the MF with the spray when wet, then a dry cloth before you vacuum.

It's one of the best "canned" cleaners out there, and has been in auto parts stores for at least a decade- probably 2. Better than Woolite or any other spray upholstery cleaner- just keep the windows open, lol!

FYI...this was a terrible idea...well on the high traffic areas, like the two seats. The panels are still holding up really well. Hopefully either picking up matching XLT buckets or a grey captains from a '94 this weekend.

LMAO! That gold interior was full of the lulz.

Looked like a Detroit bus driver's mouth.

Good luck on getting something else for it, you sure need it.

And for the record, Black doesn't look all that bad against Brown. But it is kinda stretching the limits.

Hey Ben if you ever run across a blue interior Bronco, can you pick up the passenger side piece of plastic that hold up the bottom part of the seat belt up onto the seat, mine's broken.

whats with the velvet man? no way thats original?

Thanks...been wanting something different for a long time. Those Corbeau's aren't as comfy as one would think, relatively hard, yet supportive...but I don't always wanna feel like I'm racing.

And no, brown on black doesn't look bad, I always kinda liked the combo.

Will do

Naw...the seats are Corbeau's wrapped in crushed velvet, and the panels are all original panels wrapped in crushed velvet. The velvet feels great, but the PO (who was the original owner) was stuck in the 70's apparently. All the trim (including exterior, ie wheel well trim and trim in the dent, keey cylinders and F-O-R-D lettering), handles and knobs were gold plated and the upholstery was redone in what I originally posted. So now I'm just down to needing new seats, panels, gear selector and headliner trim. And the head liner trim will be gotten this weekend and I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the seats. Panels can wait, and no one seems to have an extra or want to part with a gear selector in relatively good shape.
